NBA Lockout Odds Favor Cancelled Season

The NBA doesn’t like to talk about odds since the Tim Donaghy scandal, but the odds are now stacked against the league playing games in 2011-2012.

After the mid-November rejection of the owner’s final offer, oddsmakers at Bodog set the cancellation odds at -150, with the ‘there will be a season’ wager at an underdog +110 number.

The players rejected the CBA offer and decertified as a union, setting the stage for antitrust litigation and a protracted legal mess. It also set the stage for no NBA betting this season.

The NBA odds associated with playing any games before Jan. 1, 2012 also climbed. Given the short timelines and the acrimony in the public discussions, the ‘no games in 2011’ wager is -300 (bet $300 to win $100) while the ‘yes games in 2011’ is a 2/1 underdog bet.

There is also an NBA prop bet on the split of BRI (basketball related income) that will be settled on. The over under percentage is 50.5 as the players had been offered 50% in the owners final offer before talks broke down.

Just because the NBA lockout continues does not mean basketball betting has come to a close. College basketball odds are available and most teams are well into their preseason schedules.
